The current solution

The primary means of lighting in areas without electricity is kerosene, which is expensive. The average family spends $69 a year on kerosene—an amount many can't afford and must instead live without lighting. And those who can must continue to buy indefinitely.

And Kerosene is dangerous. It is a fire hazards as well as the cause indoor air pollution and kerosene ingestion among kids. Also, it is an unreliable source, the price for which is steadily rising.

Our solution

Solar lanterns.

Our lantern's are simple technology. They have a small solar panel at the top. This panel is used to charge two double AA batteries at the bottom. In the center we have two super bright LED's which give enough light for basic tasks like reading, taking care of the sick, looking over farm receipts, and much more.

Most importantly our lanterns are...
•Safe—no danger of fire
•Reliable—will work in the rain
•Inexpensive—will save a family over $300 in 5 years. For many families that's a whole years worth of income!
