About Us
In 2005, Patrick Delaney flew down to Nicaragua with the goal of building a mini hydro-power plant. He soon discovered that hydro-power is not a viable solution for most of Nicaragua. Instead, his journey led him to a family using a solar panel to light four compact fluorescent light bulbs. Unfortunately, solar panels are not a realistic option for most Nicaraguans. He realized the necessity for something smaller and more affordable. Working with a number of other students Patrick developed a prototype solar lantern. As the idea grew Patrick was joined by business students Aleksandr Kladnitsky, Mike Semenuik, and Trisha Qualy. Using their education these students found a way to use globalization and economies of scale to make their lantern into an affordable reality. Since then Bright New Ideas has grown in size and has formed a number of valuable partnerships across the globe.
Our Mission
Bright New Ideas is committed to finding and bringing efficient, effective, and environmentally friendly energy solutions to the people in our world who need it most.
Our Values
As the students who have come together to form Bright New Ideas we share a common set of values. We recognize that there are many people and cultures in our world. Our passion is meeting these people and encountering these cultures. Our hope is to open our eyes to new ways of looking at humanity. In this process we would like to share our passion for new technology that is environmentally friendly and cost efficient. Our hope is that together we can make the world a better place. A place where we can all share in the surpluses technology has created. A place electricity and energy is a right and not a privilege. Our organization could easily turn into what we do not believe in, and we will continuously check what we are doing and why. We do not believe in telling others their way of life is inferior to ours. We do not believe in using our organization for our own sake without giving back to the community around us. Finally, we will not lower the quality of life for one group of people for the sake of another. While these goals are difficult, they give us a feeling of fulfillment and hope for a brighter future.
